What's going on in the Art Room?

Latest happening is "The Stacked Box Mural Project"...supposedly setting some type of world record which is pretty cool. We are one of many school in mnps participating in this project.

We are going to paint the boxes, then deconstruct them and they will be set up at the Hermitage for Fall Fest, October 4-6, 2013! So it's like a portable mural...pretty great idea.

Here's the link to the facebook page, if you're interested in going:

Sketch in Pencil of 'Old Hickory'

4th Graders outlining in black tempera paint

More outlining....

I sketched a version of "Old Hickory Reflections" a Phil Ponder print that we have in our hallway mapping out Old Hickory. I love the sentimental/historical connection and also I feel like it's creating a strong sense of community...hopefully that's happening anyways!

The 4th graders got all the outlining finished in about 30-40 minutes...it looks so bold and awesome!
I love the pieces all mixed up.

This was our drying rack...

Can you find the piece that is out of place?

Ah, fixed.

Day Two: Adding Color

We got some good ground covered today! So far two fourth grade classes have worked on our mural.

  3. This is really fun! I wonder how difficult it is to keep it stacked being 5 boxes high? Is there a falling over problem? Also, where do you suggest getting such nice all white boxes?

  4. Love this! Where did you find all the boxes?

  5. They were supplied for the mural project by the people organizing the district wide mural. They were 12x12" white boxes.

    1. I am unable to find where to purchase the boxes. Are you able to provide a site? I am an art teacher in Calgary, Alberta.
