Kindergarten Cityscape Paintings

Jim Dine Pop Art Hearts

I do this project with 1st grade every year right around Valentine's Day. I had a couple of classes use liquid watercolors to paint over oil pastel drawings. But, this year we have some particular difficult 1st graders, so I simplified this for some other classes to oil pastel only. They turned out very vibrant and lovely!

1st Grade Turkey Paintings

We used oil pastels and liquid watercolors…this is a yearly fav for my Kindergarteners and 1st graders. It’s easy and beautiful…and festive!
Trace a butter lid for the body, add all the parts of a turkey….outline with oil pastels adding lines, designs and patterns. Lastly, paint with liquid watercolors.

Abstract Turkeys! ( a little belated)

Here's a liquid watercolor project we did the week of Thanksgiving....1st grade Abstract Turkeys!

Step One: Trace a butter lid for belly...or hand draw using oil pastels.

Step Two: Add feathers, feet and head. Don't forget the 'wattle'.

Step Three: Decorate feathers with patterns.

I like how chicken-y this turkey came out.

Step Four: Paint all the white space using liquid watercolors.
